QUOTE: “More grounded, more humble, more selfless makes us more opportunistic.” -- Mike Tomlin
Twice this season, the Miami Dolphins have lost games against undefeated teams (the Saints and Colts) when they have dominated. Sunday, they won for the second time against the Jets despite being outgained 378-104 in total yards (104 is their fewest ever in a win). The Dolphins have won seven of their last eight divisional games and are now 3-0 as they prepare for New England next week. Ted Ginn proved he’s a competitor, rallying to the challenge after being benched as a starter and responding in a huge way. His two kickoff returns were sensational, but what was more impressive was his humble manner after the game discussing his accomplishments.
APTed Ginn Jr. rallied to the challenge and displayed his big-play ability yesterday.
The Jets started the season 3-0 but are 1-4 since. In fairness, their expectations have been too high. This is not a Super Bowl team. This is a good team that needs to keep growing and keep making trades with Eric “The Secret” Mangini of the Browns. Mangini has given the Jets hope because the two players he has traded to them give them hope. Patience might be the best virtue for the Jets, and possibly getting head coach Rex Ryan some help with game management on Sundays — he loves to go into half time with timeouts in his pocket. Someone I respect once told me that arrogance can cloud your judgment. Kicking the ball twice to Ted Ginn was beyond arrogant.

Random game thoughts
APBrett Favre and the Vikings completed the season sweep of the Packers on Sunday.
1. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 NFC North champions are the Minnesota Vikings. I don’t see how they can lose this lead now. Impressive outing for the Vikings on the road -- the last two have been very impressive — even the loss to the Steelers.
2. The Miami wildcat was dead in the Meadowlands as it was in the second half of the Saints game. Is this a trend, or do teams have a handle on this one? The Patriots will have before and after film of the Dolphins-Jets games to help them learn what they should and shouldn’t do when playing Miami.
3. Impressive win for the Cowboys. Yes, I know it was Seattle, but how they handled the Seahawks so easily was very impressive.
4. Keep watching these dreadful games, Randy Lerner. Your Browns are going to keep looking bad. This won’t change until you make a change. It’s one thing to have patience but another to keep going down the wrong road. The Browns are hard to watch on offense -- 191 total yards (held under 200 total yards for the fourth straight game and 10th time in their last 13). Derek Anderson: 6-17, 76 yards, 2 INTs (fourth consecutive start with a completion rate under 50 percent; 40.7 completion percentage in five starts; fewer than 10 completions in three of his past four starts). How bad must Brady Quinn be?
5. Peyton Manning throws for almost 350 yards, but his team scores only 18 points. Wonder why? The 49ers played great in the red zone, holding the Colts to 0 for 4. The Niners lost, but at least they gave themselves a chance.
6. The Rams found a way to win a game, and now we have only one winless team left: the Bucs. Give the Rams credit, they fought for the victory after having lost 17 in a row. Only 40,000 fans showed up to watch two bad teams (the Rams and Lions) play. Both have a long way to go.
7. The Eagles have been saving Leonard Weaver for the right time, and Sunday was the right time. His longest run of his career was 40 yards, and his first run of the day was for 40. There’s no doubt now that the Eagles know how to beat the Giants after beating them for the third straight time.
APEagles wideout Jeremy Maclin
8. The Giants made the fatal mistake of allowing the Eagles to make big plays. Eagles: four TDs in the first half (all on drives of three plays or fewer). The Birds did what they do best — make big plays.
9. Panthers coach John Fox knew all along that his team was just a trip to Arizona away from turning it around. But in reality, when the big play -- either run or pass -- is part of the Panthers’ offense, they can move the ball. The Cards clearly could not handle the success of their recent road wins.
10. As a team, Baltimore has a big heart. They’re a very competitive team and found ways to make plays to beat Denver. What a weekend of special teams plays. Kickoff coverage was not very good in most cities this weekend.
Off to L.A. Will have much more in the Tavern today after I land.

@Marken I didn't realize the Saints were in the NFC North.
Don't ya just love it when the loudmouths get beat again... Yes, I'm talking about the Jets... Read the NY papers this morning and all you hear is "we dominated them, but lost" and "Yeah, the Dolphins are a Super team" blah blah blah... You lost, face the facts Rex Ryan, Bart Scott and Kerry Rhodes... In all your talking and woofing, you forgot to play in all 3 phases of the game so you DESERVED to lose... and in the words one Rex Ryan....BOO HOO HOO !!!!
Good for Ted Ginn, but many analysts are side-stepping the fundamental problem due to his explosive performance - that he hasn't been a good "WIDE RECEIVER" let alone one worthy of a first round pick. Just as it is with Darius Heyword-Bay, it is not Ginn's fault that he was picked so high. He wasn't even that great of a receiver at Ohio State, but was an ace returner and who would have thunk that it is his return skills that have translated to the NFL. Taking into consideration the points of him being a great returner and not being his own drafter, he has yet to be proven to be a good receiver, and did not do anything to disprove the assessment that he is not by catching zero passes on Sunday. As we all know the return game can be a fickle business.
Rex Ryan says the Jets dominated the game, but he's wrong. Miami had a special teams edge of 310 yards with 2 Touchdowns to 160 yards and 0 Touchdowns. When you factor in that yardage discrepancy, the statistics get a lot closer.
I like Rex a lot, but for him to dismiss special teams so easily in his comments is wrong and I would be disappointed to hear him talk like that if I were a die-hard Jets fan.
That said, his defense looked awesome and he definitely followed up on his promise after these 2 teams last meeting.
I still think the Jets are going to put together a winning season.
Miami's decision to go for two in a 30-19 game with 8:48 left was the most mind-boggling, horrible one of the season yet. This is literally first grade math stuff.
Mike,
Can you do an article on the decision to go for the two point conversion? The Jets went for it too early in the game. I felt it at the time and they proved me right. That decision forced them to do it again later- and they failed again. Boy would they have liked to have had those 2 xtra points late in the game!
First of all, (even as a Broncos fan), hats off to the Ravens. Baltimore kicked our posterior (the profanity like unto a donkey gets so tired and played) and we didn't respond. Thankfully, McDaniels is a good coach and the Steelers are going to have hell to pay coming off of their bye week next Monday as the Broncos improve to 7-1. Secondly, the Dolphins are the best 3-4 team in NFL history. People can hate on them for losing to elite teams such as Indianapolis and New Orleans all they want, but they are 3-0 in divisional play. Perhaps Dolphins-Pats is the game of the week next weekend, although the Texans/Colts and Ravens/Bengals games should also be awesome. Finally, the 49ers did all they could to push the Colts to the brink but Peyton Manning ultimately is too good and he did just enough to keep Indianapolis unbeaten. Mike Singletary created a template to flummox Manning, but perhaps at this stage of his career, the G.O.A.T. quarterback cannot be completely frustrated. This was a good weekend of football and the best is yet to come. Falcons and Saints in N'awlins!
Minnesota's run D should be a key for them staying in every road game. That front four stays healthy, the team can level any playing field.
Then Dome field at home, with one of the most likely homefield playoff teams a dome team.
The Vikings will win the North unless the wheels fall off the wagon with either a Favre or Petersen injury soon and either the Packers or Bears showing some consistency (doubtful).

Mike, Great stuff as always but I think you are too quick to put the Vikings ahead of the Saints in the NFC. The Saints schedule really works to their favor with all their tough matchups at home. They could easily be 14-2, 15-1 at the end of the season.
