Wide receivers Devin Hester and Johnny Knox were knocked out of the Bears’ 48-24 victory over the Lions on Sunday, and now the team will has another injury to be concerned about.

Defensive lineman Israel Idonije will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery today, a source said. The hope is that Idonije will not miss a game as the Bears are heading into a bye week. That might be a little overly optimistic, but he’s not expected to be sidelined long and that’s a good thing because he’s a versatile contributor playing both spots on the line and special teams.

Idonije has been listed on the injury report with a knee injury since the season began. The Bears have some depth at the position if he misses a week or two. Rookie Jarron Gilbert got his first action of the season on Sunday, and tackle Matt Toeaina is considered an able backup although he’s usually de-activated on game day.

The club said Sunday it hoped injuries to Hester and Knox were minor and that they would be available when the Bears play next at Atlanta on Oct. 18.

Gilbert should be great at flying to the ball, he has great burst for his size. Israel Idonije has been a player I've always appreciated watching play. Very quick, and speed rushing is what the Tampa 2 personifies. It's been the durability item with him, don't rush him back! Fans would prefer to see him close to 100% again and able to assert his presence in the pass rush into the December months.
